One more amigurumi from one of the animated movies by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli! This time I made Ponyo which is a character from a movie called Ponyo on the Cliff or Gake no ue no Ponyo. You can read Ponyo amigurumi crochet pattern in this post.
Ponyo on the Cliff is a fantasy movie and suitable for all ages. The main characters are Ponyo, the little fish, and Sousuke, the boy who finds Ponyo. Ponyo, who left her home in the ocean, doesn’t want to come home and wants to live with Sousuke in her human form.
Like other Hayao Miyazaki movies, I really like the colors and the scenery shown. The story is very entertaining. The theme song composed by Joe Hisaishi is also very fun to enjoy.
I share Ponyo amigurumi crochet pattern free in this post. But if you need printable PDF crochet pattern, you can purchase it in my Shop. PDF crochet pattern also available in Ravelry.

Attach hair
- Give the hairline on the head using black pins and embroidery thread. This will be a border to attach the hair. Distance the front hairline 5 rounds from the top of the head, width 13 sc. Distance the back of the hairline 10 rounds from the top of the head, width 11 sc.
- Prepare orange yarn for hair strands. Wrap the yarn around a small envelope (approx. 11 cm wide) or some other tool. Cut both sides and tie the middle so it’s easier to pick up.
- Attach a strand of hair on the head at each sc in the hairline. Remove the pins and embroidery thread as you go.
- Cut and arrange hair.
Attach parts
- Sew the belly circle to the front of the body.
- Sew the two fins to the body, no need to fill the fins.
- Make the eyes out of white felt and give them dark circles with a drawing pen. Glue to the face.
